Since the inception of Pittsburgh International Airport more than 50 years ago, Moon Township has been an economically thriving community with a number of corporate headquarters, hotels, restaurants and retail businesses located within its borders. Moon Township's professionally planned economic growth was a product of the development generated by the Pittsburgh International Airport, a portion of which is located in Moon Township.
The Township has continued to experience a tremendous amount of economic growth and today is home to a number of high-profile national corporations, including FedEx Ground, GlaxoSmithKline, Eaton Electrical Group, Nova Chemicals, Inc., and Michael Baker Corporation. These companies reside in our Class A office parks, such as Cherrington Corporate Center, Airside Business Park, Airport Office Park and Edgetowne Square. The Township is also home to Robert Morris University, which has a very strong business curriculum and educates nearly 5,100 students annually.
These corporations and Robert Morris University have generated infrastructure improvements to help attract, retain and develop these businesses. They have also helped Moon keep the tax base strong with some of the lowest taxes in the region, especially for a full-service community. Moon Township, founded in 1788, is a Second Class Township within Allegheny County.
